Thanks to its variety of climate and ecosystems, Mexico is one of the
ten countries in the world which possess the greatest variety of wildlife
fauna. It is enough to mention, that to the coasts of Mexico arrive seven of the eight existing turtle species in
the world to spawn their eggs. The seas of Mexico are also a habitat for surprising creatures, such as
the blue whale, the biggest animal in the planet, which carries through an
extraordinary migration journey from the Northern Canada all the way down to the Pacific. Along the eastern coast also goes the
planet?s second most important bird migratory route. Felines, like jaguars,
pumas and ocelots inhabit the forests in the south-east whereas the pink
flamingo has found its niche in the peninsula of Yucatán and the royal eagle up in the north of Mexico. There are many unique species existing in Mexico, for example the volcano hare, the ajolote of Xochimilco and the Mexican
Wolf as well as the tapir, quetzal and aguila arpia. Some of these animals can
be observed only in zoos, like the one in Puebla called African Safari and
Zacango in the state of Mexico; the zoo of Chapultepec in Mexico City and
"Miguel Álvarez del Toro, in Chiapas.
