In Tlaxcala?s surrounding areas you?ll find excellent natural settings where you can do exercise, go hiking, mountain bike riding and climbing.

Parque Nacional La Malinche (Malinche National Park). Located 26 km (16 mi) east of Tlaxcala and 13 km (8 mi) west of Huamantla off Highway 136. This is the city?s main ecological reserve due to the abundant coniferous forest that covers most of its 45,711 hectares (112,906 acres). In this park you?ll find the Matlacoeyatl Volcano, or La Malinche, which is 4,461 meters (14,721 feet) above sea level. It is the sixth highest peak in Mexico. This spot has designated areas where you can take nature hikes or go mountain bike riding, as well as sections where you can participate in cross-country races or go camping. At the foothills of the volcano you?ll find numerous cliffs and rocks where you can do climbing and rappelling.

Las Vigas. Located 60 km (37 mi) northwest of Tlaxcala off Highway 119 in the direction of Tlaxco. At this place you?ll find a huge cliff known as La Muñeca (The Doll), which has ideal walls for rappelling.
