Area Natural Protegida Sierra de Lobos ? Located 55 km (34 mi) northwest of Guanajuato and 30 km (18 mi) north of the city of Leon. Also known as the Vergel de la Sierra. This natural area has played an important role in protecting the Mexican wolf, which is how it got its original name. The comfortable grounds on this nature reserve allow you to do diverse recreational activities, such as hiking. Experienced guides will take you on a tour that provides spectacular views of cliffs and dams.

 

Valle de Santiago ? Located 88 km (54 mi) from Guanajuato off highways 110 and 45. This protected ecological zone has a group of volcanic craters. It has varying climates, which have allowed the development of diverse forms of wildlife. The rough terrain of the so-called Land of the Seven Lights is ideal for doing such recreational activities as trekking and rappelling. The mountains have walls that are between 2 and 20 meters (6 and 66 feet) tall, and of varying difficulty levels. Companies in Guanajuato and Leon offer safe tours.
