FESTIVALS
AND TRADITIONS
Veracruz?s most awaited celebration of the year
is the Carnival,
which draws thousands of national
and foreign tourists in February and March. The
festivities begin with the burning
of an effigy.
During the event you can see
diverse artistic, cultural and sporting events.
After the Carnival queen is crowned, a parade
rolls downs Manuel Avila Camacho Blvd., which features floats and festive dancing.
Another important event is the
Celebracion del Viejo, which
takes place on the last two
days of the
year. During the celebration, locals dress up as old people and
they sing on the streets.
At midnight, on Dec. 31, they
burn an effigy
to usher in the New Year.
