FESTIVALS AND TRADITIONS

One of the region?s oldest celebrations is the Reto del Tepozteco, a dance performance that represents the conversion of Cuauhnahuac?s followers to Catholicism. This event takes place at dusk on Sept. 8. Another important festivity is the Carnaval de Tepoztlan, which is held on the four afternoons prior to Ash Wednesday. This celebration features a fair that offers a traditional dance performance known as El Brinco del Chinelo, in which you?ll see participants dressed in velvet tunics, masks and hats.
