HISTORICAL
ARCHITECTURE
In Tampico you can marvel at the
beautiful architecture of some of
the city?s most emblematic edifices.
Catedral de la
Inmaculada Concepcion (Cathedral) ? Located
in front of the Plaza de Armas. This 19th-century construction has a
notable neoclassic pink stone façade. One
of the most
striking features is the triangular pediment, which is ornamented with
Byzantine-style tiles. Open daily from
8:00 to 7:00.
Antiguo Palacio
Municipal ? Located on Altamira Street. This building,
which is a blend of various
architectural styles, stands out for its main façade
on the corner of the edifice.
Also of interest
is the art
nouveau ornamentation, which was made using mortar. On
the sides of the main
entrance are two medallions with the busts of
Leona Vicario and Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez.
In the center of the entryway
you?ll see the city?s coat
of arms, which is made of
cast iron. Open Monday through
Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00.
Edificio de la Antigua
Aduana Maritima (Maritime Customs Building) ? Located on Aduana Street. This is one
of the city?s
most valuable architectural
treasures. In the early 20th century, it was the
center of the port?s commercial
activity. This elegant English-influenced architectural design features striking brickwork and ironwork ornamentation.
