In Saltillo you can visit museums that display
artistic, biological and scientific exhibits related to Mexico?s northern region.
Museo
del Desierto (Desert Museum) ? Located in the Centro
Metropolitano Parque Las Maravillas, at 3745 Prolongacion Perez Treviño. This museum has four
pavilions and three showrooms that focus on fundamental aspects of Coahuila?s desert ecosystem. You?ll see fossils such as the
so-called Isauria, the first dinosaur remains found
in the region, as well as other exhibits that explain the inhabitants?
coexistence with regional flora and fauna. Open Tuesday through Sunday from
10:00 to 5:00.
Museo de las
Aves de Mexico (Bird Museum of Mexico) ? Located on the corner
of Hidalgo
and Bolivar. This museum features four showrooms with exhibits of some 500 stuffed
bird species that inhabit Mexico.
It also offers information related to the natural history of these species,
including their origins, mating habits, trills, various plumage types and the
ecosystems they inhabit. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 6:00 and
Sundays and holidays from 11:00 to 6:00.
Museo de Historia
Natural (Natural History Museum) ? Located on the corner of Av. Echeverria
and Av. Universidad, in the right wing of the Ateneo Fuente, one of the city?s most important academic centers.
At this museum you?ll see a collection of stuffed animal species, rocks and
fossils. Open Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 2:00.
Pinacoteca Artemio de Valle Arizpe ? Located on the corner
of Av. Echeverria and Av. Universidad, in the left
wing of the Ateneo Fuente.
This museum has an important collection of art, including paintings by Mexican
artists such as Saturnino Herran,
as well as European works from the 17th to 20th
centuries. Open Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 2:00.
