In La Paz
you can visit several museums known for their
originality and diverse themes that are certain to captivate you.
Museum of Regional
Anthropology and History ? Located on the corner of Ignacio
M. Altamirano and 5 de Mayo. This museum
has three floors and four showrooms
where you can see pre-historic
archaeological pieces, as well as objects from the colonial era and modern times. The museum also
has an Ethnobotanical Garden and several
rooms where cultural and educational programs are developed.
Natural History
Museum ? Located
on the campus of the Baja
California Sur
Autonomous University,
at Km 5.5 on Highway 1, heading south. This fabulous museum has collections of geological, paleobotanical, paleobiological and paleoanthropological finds, such as the fossils of
marine mammals, bird species and reptiles. Open Monday through
Friday from 10:00 to 2:00 and 5:30 to 8:00.
Regional Museum of Telecommunications
? Located at 220 Guillermo Prieto. This original museum
has more than 50 radio, television
and communications devices on display.
In addition, you?ll see oil paintings and biographies of famous scientists
that worked in the field, such
as Thomas Alva Edison,
Samuel Morse and Mexican
Juan de la Granja. Open Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 to 2:00 and Saturdays from
9:00 to 1:30.
Museum of the Gray Whale ? Located in the Centro
Cultural Profesor Jesus Castro Agundez,
on Navarro Street, between Altamirano and Gomez Farias. This is an interesting museum that has graphic art and photo
exhibits related to the extraordinary
phenomenon of the migration of
the gray whale to the
coast of Baja California
Sur. Also on display is a skeleton
of a gray whale, which measures
12 meters
(40 feet).
Open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Centro Cultural
Profesor Jesus Castro Agundez ? Located
on Navarro Street, between Altamirano and Gomez Farias. This modern cultural center has various attractions, including the Teatro de la Ciudad (a theater), the Profesor Carlos Olachea Boucieguez Art Gallery, the
Pablo L. Martinez History
Archive, the Profesor Filemon
C. Piñeda Public Library and the
Museum of the Gray Whale.
Open Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 3:00.
