In Monterrey?s surrounding areas you?ll find pine and oak forests, as well as mountainous terrain, which are home to a wide variety of wildlife.

 

Cascada Cola de Caballo Ecotourism Park. This is the ideal place to observe plant and animal species. Open daily from 9:00 to 7:00.

 

Chipinque Ecological Park. Located about 8 km (5 mi) south of Monterrey, in the town of San Pedro Garza Garcia. This is a nature reserve that covers an area of 1625 hectares (4,013 acres). The forest area is home to 120 bird species and 22 mammal varieties. This park has lookouts that afford a view of the city and the skies above. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

Cañon de la Huasteca (Huasteca Canyon). Located 9.5 km (6 mi) from the city, in the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park. In this giant canyon, which is 305 meters (1006 feet) deep, you?ll see curious rock formations and mountain crests. This is the ideal place to observe flora and fauna, especially in the higher areas that are covered with pine and oak forests.
