ARCHITECTURE
In Monterrey you can marvel at old buildings
that are considered historic monuments, such as the palaces and churches. Among
the most important edifices are:
Catedral Metropolitana de Nuestra
Señora de Monterrey. Located in front of Plaza de Armas. This is one of the city?s most important buildings. It
features a pink neoclassical-style stone façade and an arched doorway.
Palacio de Gobierno
Monterrey.
Located on the corner of Zuazua and 5 de Mayo. The
vestibule of this neoclassical-style edifice contains striking medallions
painted by V. Balero and stained glass windows made
by G. Pellandini.
Palacio del
Obispado. Located on Rafael Jose Verger Street, in the Obispado neighborhood. This is Monterrey?s most important historic monument.
From 1846 to 1848 it served as a city fortress when the U.S. invaded Mexico during the Mexican-American
War. Currently, it has houses the Nuevo
Leon Regional
Museum.
Casino de Monterrey. Located
on the corner of Zuazua and Abasolo.
This French-influenced neoclassical building has two floors with spacious halls
that are rented for social events. The staircase leading to the entryway has
beautiful wrought-iron work.

in the heart of Nuevo Leon?s
capital. This 40-hectare (99-acre) plaza is one of the largest public
