OUTDOOR
ACTIVITIES
At the nature reserves and ecological camping sites in
Manzanillo?s surrounding areas
you can do various outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking, which allows
you to appreciate
the region?s wildlife, and horseback
riding, which offers a view of
the bay. If you had
something more adventurous
in mind, we recommend Tyrolean rappelling, which involves harnessing yourself to a pulley
and sliding down a cable at about 40 kilometers (25 miles) per hour between
two platforms. This experience is only for
the most intrepid travelers. At these places you can rent all
the proper safety equipment.
Natura Camp ? Located northeast
of Manzanillo, at Km 1.6 on the
Manzanillo-Minatitlan Highway
98. At this ecological camping site you can appreciate the wide variety
of coastal vegetation. The main draw here
is the eco-friendly facility. Here you can go
horseback riding or hiking along
trails of varying difficulty levels while enjoying
the spectacular scenery. For those
who like extreme sports, this place has a boulder that is
12 meters (40 feet) high, which is
ideal for rappelling, climbing and Tyrolean
rappelling, a thrilling experience that involves sliding down a cable between two hills.
Bosque Tropical La
Floreña ? Located 10 km (6 mi) northeast of Manzanillo. This ecological reserve has beautiful trails that run through
a forest with a wide variety of
flora and fauna. You can also visit prehistoric
caves with stalagmites and stalactites of diverse shapes
and sizes.
