FISHING

The calm waters and wide variety of fish off the Yucatan coast provide ideal conditions for sportfishing. In these waters, you can catch shark, grouper, corbina, mullet, red snapper, drum and barracuda. You can also fish off the docks as you take in a gorgeous sunset. There you can rent all the necessary gear and tackle to enjoy a day of fishing. We recommend that you do this activity during fishing season to avoid any setbacks.

Reserva Especial de la Biosfera Ria Celestun ? Located 95 km (59 mi) west of Merida on a state highway that you can catch near the town of Uman. Has 51,139 hectares (126,313 acres) and a 20-km-long (12.4-mi) estuary, which empties into the Gulf of Mexico in the state of Campeche. This biosphere reserve has become a favorite fishing spot due to the many different species that live in its calm waters.

Puerto Progreso ? Located 36 km (22 mi) north of Merida on Highway 261, this is the coast of Yucatan?s most important port. The climate is hot and arid with rainfall from June to September. Due to the wide variety of species that live offshore, it is an ideal location for sportfishing.
