The beautiful landscape, excellent climate and diverse geographic zones surrounding Guanajuato provide the ideal setting for extreme sports. At the following places you can enjoy beautiful views while mountain biking, paragliding, or aboard a hot air balloon:

Cerro del Cubilete ? Located about 40 km (25 mi) from Guanajuato, this is the perfect spot for paragliding, as the hills serve as excellent platforms to take off. As you glide through the air you?ll get an impressive view of the Bajio region.

Zona Recreativa de las Palomas ? Located 15 minutes from Guanajuato off Highway 110 in the direction of Dolores Hidalgo, in the Cuenca de la Esperanza. This recreational area is part of the migration path of neotropical birds from Alaska, Canada and the United States. The rugged geography that forms part of this nature reserve?s ecosystem, as well as the routes and trails on the recreational area?s grounds, allow you to go mountain biking near some of Guanajuato?s most famous mines, such as La Valencia, the Mina de Guadalupe and Real de Santa Ana.

Valle de Santiago ? Located 88 km (54 mi) from Guanajuato off highways 110 and 45. This protected ecological zone has a group of volcanic craters. It has varying climates, which have allowed the development of diverse forms of wildlife. The rough terrain of this valley region, which includes volcanic rock formations, are a joy to explore along the area?s intricate mountain bike routes.

Leon ? Located 54 km (33 mi) west of Guanajuato on Highway 45. This city hosts the National Hot Air Balloon Festival. Here they also organize hot air balloon rides for groups of up to 12 people. During the ride you?ll get a gorgeous view of the city and its surrounding areas.
