Veracruz?s cuisine is a unique blend of pre-Hispanic
ingredients and recipes brought over by the Spaniards. During your visit, be
sure to try the famous pescado a la
veracruza (a regional fish dish), tortitas
de hueva de lisa (mullet roe), seafood stew, pulpos a la marinera (baby octopus), arroz a la tumbada (Veracruz-style rice), empanadas de camaron (shrimp turnovers) and costeño (regional) and anis
(anise) tamales. To wash it down, we
recommend you try the toritos (a
strong liquor), lasglorias, los diablitos and el popo
(a beverage made of cacao and rice). You should also have a cup of tasty
Veracruz-style café con leche. For an
excellent cup of coffee, go to Los Portales and La Parroquia.
