MUSEUMS
The city of Durango has numerous museums with exhibits
that allow you to learn about the region?s cultural development.
Instituto Cultural Durango (ICED) ? Located at 130 Av. 16 de Septiembre, in the Silvestre Dorador
neighborhood. This cultural institute conducts research and has various museums with
archaeological, historical and cultural exhibits related to the state of Durango. Here you can
visit the Museo de la Revolution (Museum of
the Revolution), the Museo de los
Hermanos Arrieta (Museum of
the Arrieta Brothers), the Pinacoteca
de Arte Sacro (The Sacred Art Gallery) and the Museo del Cine Rafael Trujillo (Rafael
Trujillo Museum of Film). Open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 to 6:00 and
Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 6:00.
Museo
Regional de Durango (Casa de Aguacate) ? Located at Calle Victoria 100 Sur, at
Aquiles Serdan. In the 14 showrooms of this regional
museum you can learn about various historical aspects of the state of Durango. You?ll also see
a collection of paintings by famed New Spain
artist Miguel Cabrera. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 to 3:45 and
Sundays from 4:00 to 8:00.
Museo de Arqueologia
(Museum of Archaeology) ? Located on Zaragoza Street. This museum has a series
of archaeological objects on display that were found throughout the state of Durango. Open Tuesday
through Saturday from 10:00 to 6:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 7:00.
Museo de las
Culturas Populares (Museum of Popular Culture) ? Located at Calle Juarez 302 Norte. The
six showrooms of this museum house an interesting collection of the state?s
popular art. It also has a model of a typical kitchen from the central valley
region, event rooms and a help center for artisans. Open Tuesday through Sunday
from 9:00 to 6:00.
Museo del
Niño (Children?s Museum) ? Located in Parque Guadiana, in the Salon de los Cristales del Auditorio del Pueblo.
This is an interesting place where children can have fun while learning about
diverse subjects, such as the human body, nature and the various fauna that
exists in the state of Durango.
Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 6:00.
