Early morning breezes and gentle winds provide ideal surfing conditions for Manzanillo surfing. On the beaches near Manzanillo, you can watch the first surfers at dawn, in their search for the Pacific's best waves.
Unlike some other surfing areas in Mexico, Manzanillo is not about waiting for hours to ride an enormous wave that has traveled thousands of miles across the ocean. But if that is what you want, go to Boca de Pascuales beach in Tecomán, 25 miles southeast of the port. As well as having the strongest waves, there are surfing schools at some of the campsites.
Surfers, their friends, and spectators also congregate on the beaches of Olas Altas, Santiago, La Ticla, and La Boquita. These are good places to enjoy pescado a la talla — fish grilled on a wood fire accompanied by a margarita. This is the ideal way to experience this incomparable exciting sport.
