Jalisco boasts ideal settings to engage in eco-tourism, adventure tourism and extreme sports, amidst impressive ecosystems, with its towering mountains, paradise-like beaches and deep canyons to the fore.
The adventure in Jalisco begins with winding trails that lead up to the heights of the mountain ranges that are all around and others that run along the edges of the reservoirs and rivers, perfect for horse-riding and hiking in these vast natural surroundings. Tapalpa and Mazamitla are ideal locations for either of these.
Continuing the tour of the state, four peaks that may be climbed are the Sierra de Tapalpa, Sierra del Halo, Nevado de Colima and Sierra del Tigre, as well as other high points suitable for exploring by mountain bike. Paths lead, too, through the region’s deep canyons, such as Cañón de Huaxtla, El Zarco, also in Huaxtla; the Cañón de la Meditación and that near Tequila, in the municipality of Los Azules, to mention but a few.
Rappelling and rock climbing are activities suited to places such as El Diente, La Cola de Caballo, El Peñón de los Camachos and Ixcatan, among others.
The adventure can finish under the waters off the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Costalegre and Boca de Tomatlán, where divers encounter spectacular underwater landscapes that reveal the mysteries of marine life.
