The historical sites of the Yucatan capital offer some of most interesting culture in Mexico. From contemporary to religious art, cultural exhibits and institutions are an excellent way to learn about the region’s history.

On the Pasaje de la Revolución avenue in the city’s historic center, the Macay Foundation’s Ateneo de Yucatán Museum of Contemporary Art exhibits modern art in its eight galleries as well as several mobile collections around the city.

The Regional Museum of Anthropology of Yucatan, also known as the Canton Palace, is on the Paseo de Montejo. When viewing its Mayan collections, visitors learn about the philosophy and lifestyle of the ancient Mayans.

Other cultural options include the National Museum of Folk Art, the Natural History Museum, the Juan Gamboa Guzman Pinacoteca del Estado photo gallery, and the Museum of Yucatecan Song.
