Adventurous holidaymakers can enjoy camping in Campeche’s luxuriant landscapes under canvas, where the mangroves, wetlands, jungles, and the native species can be experienced first-hand.
The campsites are some distance from the city. The Chenko turtle camp Campeche (Campamento Tortuguero de Chenkán) is a popular campsite located halfway between Ciudad del Carmen and Campeche; the camp has become a place to protect and preserve hawksbill sea turtles by the beach – adding a special touch to the site.
The Unidad Ecoturística y Campamento Tortuguero Xpicob, 15 minutes south from the city, is another turtle sanctuary to visit. Its dense vegetation and calm waters make it the perfect place to learn about the environment.
The Calakmul biosphere reserve is home to species like the jaguar and puma. In the Terminos Lagoon, visitors can observe manatees, dolphins, and hawksbill turtles in their natural habitat.
Adventure in Campeche awaits!
