Crafts in San Luis Potosí range from clothes and shawls to religious art with images of Christ made from mahogany.
Although there is no single large craft market in San Luis Potosi, you can walk through the historic center to find small places where you can find miniature huaraches, or sandals, woolen blankets, huastec dolls, inlaid wood, as well as items made from ixtle – a fiber from the maguey cactus, and Santa Maria del Rio shawls. Consider purchasing a famous rebozo caramelo, or caram el shawl, the finest and most expensive of them all. You can store your fine Santa Maria shawl in an inlaid wooden box, which are made in many and varied designs by local artisans.
The most typical crafts of Rio Verde are the maqueta boots and haversacks, carrizo and palm basket work items, and furniture from Huacalillos.
