Take a day out from your vacation to visit the Zoofari and get up close and personal with nature. The whole family will appreciate it! On the highway linking Cuernavaca, Morelos, to the Magic Town of Taxco, you won't be able to miss the Zoofari, a vast park that opened its doors in 1984 and today is home to over 130 species and 1200 animals. Here's a chance to spend a pleasant day with the family as well as getting back to nature.
The park is divided into six large sections: the first five can be covered by car, and the last on foot. You'll be able to while away the hours, and entertain the kids, observing giraffes, zebras, ostriches, antelopes, rhinos, deer, kangaroos, American bison, and other exotic animals from within Mexico and abroad, in a total recreation of their natural habitats.
The Zoofari is also – and more importantly – a conservation center for endangered species and ecosystems. It's a unique opportunity to get close to the animals rather than just watching them from a distance; some species can even be fed from the comfort of your car! For an even more active experience, why not enjoy a ride on the park's beautiful ponies and llamas? There is also a fabulous children’s zoo where the little ones can touch harmless animals and take pictures with them.
The park also offers a few other activities: for adventurers, there is a 650 foot long zip line that crosses a lake, and a ride along “The Jaguar’s Path”, an eco-tour with nerve-racking suspension bridges. Visiting this site, you can be sure you won't go hungry: there is an excellent restaurant serving traditional food and offering a panoramic view of the region. If you're thinking of taking a memento home with you, there's a souvenir shop with a great variety of items for sale. The Zoofari is open every day of the year from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
