In Xcaret you will be able to experience everything you can expect from an unforgettable trip: imagine stunning natural landscapes where the green color of the jungle combines with the turquoise color of the ocean; add soft white sand beaches, ancient archaeological sites and hundreds of exotic animal species. The natural park of Xcaret is a place boasting the best of Mexico’s culture and traditions. A paradise in which the natural beauty and the cultural wealth of the Mexican Caribbean combine, only 45 minutes of Cancun, Quintana Roo.
What are the attractions it offers?
One of the daytime attractions in Xcaret Park is the cove, where you can go snorkeling and admire the colored fish surrounding you; you can also swim with dolphins, sharks, dive into beautiful natural sinkholes, take diving classes, visit the coral aquarium or watch the giant turtle pond where you will be able to feed them.
Everything is possible in Xcaret, even if you don’t want to dive into the water there are many activities in which you can participate, such as touring the underground river on a giant inflated tire, walk along the paths and interact with the local wildlife on the Tropical Jungle Path, where you will be shown the plants from which chewing gum, cinnamon or vanilla are harvested. Take a ride on a raft, visit the replica of a Mayan village, go into a cave full of bats, and visit the island of jaguars and many other activities.
You will find around 40 natural and cultural attractions in this park such as the “butterfly farm” (the first in Mexico), where you will be able to see species native to the Yucatan Peninsula; a Coral Reef Aquarium, unique in its kind, and one of the few places in the world where reef structures can be seen in their natural habitat; you will also be able to admire hundreds of species endemic to the region in its regional wildlife breeding area. Admire the view of the Sacred Paradise of Mexico and the Caribbean ocean from the Rotating Scenic Tower; whisper your secrets in the House of Whispers and be amazed by the scents and colors in the Living Orchid Museum.
In addition to all of these adventures, in Xcaret you will be able to witness ancient ceremonies and some of the mystical traditions of Mexico, such as the rite of the Papantla Flyers or the Day of the Dead Festival; and enjoy every bite of the traditional Mexican cuisine. Visit the cemetery built in the shape of a cone with seven levels and 365 different graves; take a look at the Henequen(sisal) producing Haciendas, within which you will find the Mexican Folk Art Museum, which exhibits the work of inventive Mexican artisans.
What you cannot miss
If you can swim, explore the underground river and travel through its clear waters over the network of canals running under the Riviera Maya in Mexico. Only in Xcaret you don’t need to be an experienced diver to discover the mysterious underwater world, here, you will be able to enjoy this experience wearing only a lifejacket. If you prefer not to get wet, you can admire the flora and fauna of the Yucatan Peninsula aboard a raft and tour the Paraiso River which will take you over the Tropical Jungle Path where deer, monkeys, macaws live, and admire the majesty of the jungle in Quintana Roo.
At dusk, Xcaret Park becomes a stage for over 300 actors participating in Xcaret Spectacular Mexico, an event offering a tour of dance, light and sound through Mexico’s history, through its music, costumes and traditions, as well as portrayals of the history of the Mayan people and the conquest, the ball game and folk dances. Also, during the course of the year you will be able to enjoy historical and cultural activities such as the Sacred Mayan Journey, a ritual which meant the crossing over by the ancient Mayas to the island of Cozumel to worship the goddess Ixchel; or the Festival of Life and Death, which commemorates the faithful departed, one of the quintessential Mexican traditions.
The park is so big that it would not be possible to tour it entirely and participate in all its activities in one day. There are packages offering two days in the park so as to fully enjoy it.
