The quiet and colonial city of Puebla is the perfect place to go for a picnic, walking or mountain biking, however it also offers amazing places for adventure sports. One of these is Chalchihuapan, 9 miles from the city, between Atlixco and Puebla. At the top of the San Bernardino hill you can go paragliding with the help of gusts of wind. The takeoff area lies on an area covered with grass and the flying intensity depends on the time of day: calm in the morning, thermal at midday and strong in the afternoon.
If you are not an expert pilot, you can request the services of any of the experts who gather there, who can take you on a ride in a tandem flight. You can also take an express course in flying that lasts 8 sessions after which you will be able to go paragliding on your own. The best flying season is between November and January and the best time to fly is after 12:00 p.m., therefore, before your takeoff, you will be able to enjoy the delicious dishes served nearby such as rotisserie chicken served with your preferred sauce.
Another destination where you can go paragliding in Puebla is San Andres Cholula, where expert pilots will be happy to teach you how to handle these colorful parachutes. Remember that to go paragliding there is no age limit; you only need to be fit and have the appropriate weight to soar in the sky. San Andres has an ideal climate for enjoying this adventure, and it offers the most stunning panoramic views.
How to get there
To get to Chalchihuapan take the Mexico-Puebla freeway and go beyond the San Martin Texmelucan toll booth. Once beyond the booth, take the exit to the ecological peripheral highway and then the exit to the federal highway to Atlixco. After passing the town of Chipilo you will find the detour to Chalchihuapan.
