In Loreto, faith and toil came together to tame the area’s rugged geographical landscape and found a new destination. It was from here that the rest of the Baja California peninsula was populated. Families from Loreto originate from the Jesuit evangelization and the emergence of the Soldados de Cuera; whereas Ranchero culture and a distinct identity of Baja California Sur were also forged in this region. Today, Loreto is a place that packed with history, tradition and, above all, magic. The historic capital of the Californias was founded on October, 25, 1967 by the Jesuit missionary, Juan Maria de Salvatierra.

Subterranean springs descending from Sierra La Laguna give birth to this oasis in the middle of a desert peninsula. That's how mango, papaya, citrus fruits, sugarcane, and avocado are grown here. In addition to its exuberant plant life, this Magical Town has other charms that it slowly reveals to visitors: the beauty of its nearby beaches (perfect for surfing), its arts community, small hotels with excellent service, and a surprising range of dining options.

Creel - also known as Creel Station because it was a major railroad stop - is in the heart of the Western Sierra Madre. Until the 1960s the train that we now know as the Chihuahua-Pacific ended its route at this Magical Town, the only one in Chihuahua. In addition to being a picturesque town evocative of the far west and bygone eras, Creel is also an excellent jumping-off point for visiting the Sierra Tarahumara, traveling in El Chepe, and adventuring about Copper Canyon (Barrancas del Cobre).

Cuatrocienegas is one of the most recent Magical Towns. Many people who were acquainted with the location wondered why. it had not been put into this category, when all the magic you could ask for is abundantly available in its narrow, dusty and sun-drenched streets. This colonial town is set in one of Mexico’s most spectacular landscapes, just a few steps from the Cuatrocienegas Protected Natural Area, one of the world’s most peculiar and beautiful oases.
