Teul de Gonzalez Ortega, Zacatecas

We were immediately attracted by this town's uncommon name as well as its history; it was founded by Spaniards when Friar Juan Pacheco celebrated its first mass in honor of Saint John the Baptist here. Nevertheless, its name changed to Teul de Gonzalez Ortega in 1935 because General Jesus Gonzalez Ortega spent a large portion of his life here. In Teul you'll find different 18th- and 19th-century constructions built on the remains of indigenous settlements.
