The capital of the state of Sonora is one of the most attractive cities in northern Mexico. 167 miles from the United States border, Hermosillo provides a wide variety of experiences for you to enjoy this area of the country to the fullest.
Begin your tour in Hermosillo by visiting the Civic Center. The Plaza Zaragoza is adorned with a kiosk brought from the city of Florence, Italy. Don’t miss visiting the Cathedral of the Assumption, which was started in the eighteenth century, and was finished during the last century. If you want to learn more about the history of Sonora, admire the murals in the Government Palace, featuring important events in the state’s history.
The Ecological Center of Sonora, with its 3,280,839 square feet, offers a great variety of flora and fauna from the various ecosystems of the State. It is a zoo and a botanical garden with 300 categories of plants and over 200 species of animals. If you want to take panoramic photographs, we suggest the Cerro de la Campana, especially at night, when it is cooler. The climb is very easy due to the cobbled road and the excellent lighting.
If you want to venture further away, few cities offer as many options as Hermosillo. 62 miles to the west, you can visit Kino Bay. Swim in its calm and mild surf, have fun with its sports activities and enjoy the seafood dishes and the Sonoran seasoning. You should also visit Ures, one of the oldest cities in Sonora, founded as a missionary town in 1644.
The International Airport is located on kilometer 9.5 of the Hermosillo-Kino Bay highway. The flight from Mexico City lasts approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes, while a bus trip takes an estimated 26 hours from Mexico City, going through Guadalajara.
