Things to do

Canyoning in Mexico

Mexico's canyons are filled with adventure—whether it's a climb, a quick rappel to the floor, the rush of a raft trip or a peaceful descent or horseback. Get to know Mexico at its most profound. Top Mexico canyon exploration: the sheer, dramatic drops at Boquillas and Huasteca Canyons in Nuevo Leon; the primeval height and incredible plant life at Chiapas's Sumidero; or the mother of them all: Chihuahua's Copper Canyon, the desert dazzler that's grander than even you-know-what in Arizona. And don't forget Baja Norte's Cañon de Guadalupe, whose high granite walls shelter hot springs, waterfalls and natural cold-water pools.

Adventure in Chihuahua

Discover Chihuahua, one of Mexico's best kept secrets, far from the tourist track. Beneath the deep purple of the Sierra Madre Occidental, you'll find rainy-season wildflowers and awe-inspiring thunderstorms, followed by blue, sun-drenched skies, cave-paintings and incredible desert wildlife. Quiet towns unchanged for centuries, traces of the Mexican Revolution, and a grand tradition of welcoming visitors. One of the main attractions in Chihuahua is Barranca de Cobre (Copper Canyon), which is a spectacular canyon network which covers over 21,000 square miles, boasting a depth of 6100 feet. The scenery is simply breath taking.

Vertigo and Fantastic Views in Copper Canyon

Barrancas del Cobre, Chihuahua - Discover Chihuahua—one of Mexico's very best kept secrets, far from the tourist track. After a breathtaking train ride through intense desert landscapes and ghostly indigenous villages, you reach Barrancas del Cobre—a series of canyons deeper and grander than even Arizona's. Hike, bike or horseback 4921 feet, nearly straight down, to camp at Lake Areko after a dip beneath Cusarare Falls. Hardcores do a 66-mile double marathon up and down La Sinforosa, the canyon's “queen of the cliffs”.
