From the moment one hits the road towards Rosarito, in the state of Baja California, the adventure is felt just by looking at the spectacular landscapes found along the highway connecting Rosarito the city of Tijuana.

Its beginnings as a tourist destination go back to the start of the 20th century with the opening of a beachside hostel, where ancient hunters visiting the area would stop. Afterwards, this hostel became the Rosarito Beach Hotel, which came to fame in the 1940s for welcoming important celebrities from Hollywood’s golden age.

Since then, Rosarito Beach has kept, non-stop, a tourism vitality, becoming a spot where relaxing, having fun and the beach combine to delight visitors.

Rosarito is currently one of the Mexican beach destinations closest to the United States, and it offers an integral tourism infrastructure.

Fishing, surfing, horseback riding, flying ultralight aircraft or just taking a sun bath, are some of the activities available on the beachside or on the Pacific waters.

Unforgettable flavors

To spoil our palate in Rosarito, one only needs to travel south to arrive at Puerto Nuevo, where an unforgettable gastronomical experience with a Mexican taste can be found.

Meats, fish, seafood and cheese are the main ingredients for the dishes served throughout the region; and among them, one can find the Puerto Nuevo-style lobster, whose popular preparation is unique. It is served with melted butter, rice, beans and freshly made flour tortillas, and it is complemented well with a glass of Baja California wine.

There are also restaurants serving Mexican and international dishes, and some of them offer specialties prepared with deer, quail and lamb.

After satisfying the palate, one can a take a stroll around this small community. Along the way, one will find some merchants selling local crafts, which become beautiful mementos of this destination.

Movie magic

The “Baja Studios” are located only 3 miles south of Rosarito, and 45 minutes south of San Diego, United States.

Built between 1996 and 1997 for the filming of the movie “Titanic”, they house several tanks for aquatic filming. Movies such as “Master and Commander”, “Pearl Harbor”, “Deep Blue Sea”, and more recently, “Little Boy” have been filmed in these studios.

Along routes

Together with Tijuana, Ensenada, Bahia San Quintin and Cataviña, Rosarito is part of the “Baja Golden Coast”, which offers a trip full of adrenaline and fun thanks to the multiple activities available in the area, where surfing is among the main ones; however, Rosarito also hosts one of the most important cycling races in North America.
