Kayak in Puerto Vallarta

Paddle through beautiful bays, along rivers and across reservoirs

Kayaking in Puerto Vallarta can be a perfect experience because of the calm waters on the rivers, open sea, or reservoirs. The clear, intensely blue waters make it possible for kayakers to appreciate the abundant marine life and, depending on the time of year, even dolphins, giant manta rays, sharks, and sometimes whales.

The Ameca River, which flows into the Boca de Tomates part of Banderas Bay, offers some of the best spots for kayaking in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding area. Other options include the beaches of Boca de Tomatlán, Colomitos, Majahuitas (a stunning beach accessible only by boat), and the Marietas Islands. If looking for a more relaxing kayaking experience, there is the Cajón de Peñas reservoir, about an hour and a half from Puerto Vallarta.

Paddling among enormous rocks and cliffs, discovering quiet spots, and learning about Puerto Vallarta’s marine fauna is all possible in kayaks for one or more people. Many operators rent the equipment at the Marina Vallarta and offer packages for beginners, letting many kayakers combine their boat expedition with snorkeling while experiencing the incredible beauty of the Mexican Pacific Ocean from a new perspective.
