The west coast of Guerrero sparkles with reflections of the waters of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, and landscapes bursting with the vivid colors of ochre and magenta at sunset beckon visitors from around the world.

A stroll along the Pacific beaches is breathtaking for anyone deciding to visit these two neighboring towns, so close but so different. Ixtapa is a sophisticated tourist center, while Zihuatanejo is a small, quaint fishing port. Together, they are a must-see destination for discerning travelers in search of a unique beach experience. This combined destination offers excitement of all kinds from diving in the blue depths of the Pacific, to walking or biking along mountain trails, to swimming with dolphins, or even zip-lining through treetops cooled by ocean breezes.

Culture buffs should visit the Costa Grande Museum, a pre-Hispanic historic  symbol, or wander through charming art galleries and handicraft markets that sell silver products from Taxco, a legendary mining town located in the state of Guerrero. Seaside, visitors can observe a wide variety of flora, fauna, and animals, including dolphins, crocodiles, multicolored fish, and several species of birds such as the unusual “fishing eagle,” frequently spotted in and around the port. Golf facilities and sport fishing are renowned in the area, and yearly tournaments and competitions gather some of the world’s best participants.

Hotels in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo abound, including four- and five-star properties, bed and breakfasts, and small hotels and inns. Visitors wishing to sleep outside may camp at established sites and enjoy an up-close encounter with nature.

Like any beach destination, entertainment and nightlife is an essential ingredient, and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo meets all expectations with a variety of options. Regional and local celebrations and festivals abound, such as Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in November or Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo’s Carnival, a bash held in March that shouldn’t be missed. For dining, many restaurants delight and entice with typical cuisine prepared with fresh fish and seafood from the Pacific.

From any angle, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is synonymous with tranquility and pleasure, with beauty and tradition, and boasts postcard-perfect sunsets that transform the sand into magical hues.
