Fishing in Rocky Point

The marriage of sea, desert and mountain creates an oasis for fishing enthusiasts

The geography of Rocky Point makes it an outstanding spot for fishing. Ringed by islands, reefs, and mangrove swamps, fishing and other types of water recreation are among the region’s main activities and make it one of the country’s prime destinations for this type of tourism.

Fishing in Rocky Point gives one access to a vast number of different species, the most prized being the grouper, sawfish, mahi-mahi, snapper, and sailfish.

The best place for sport fishing in Rocky Point is San Jorge, which due to the island’s rocky heights is home to a multitude of different fish species. Another option is to choose a spot on the forty miles of sandy beach or take a trip into the tranquil, shady mangroves.

The port is the venue for a number of important tournaments, such as the La Choya Bay Club competition in July, and others in February, March, and April, plus the Angler of the Year in October.
